Sunday marked the first day of National Safety Telecommunicators Week.
It happens every second week of April and honors those unseen heroes who serve the public.
Public safety telecommunicators answer emergency calls for police, fire, or medical emergencies in the community.
An estimated 240 million calls are made to 9-1-1 each year in the United States.
The week was first observed in 1981 by a sheriff’s office in California, officially being recognized by the United States Congress in 1994.
