Dispatchers around the nation are celebrating a special week in honor of the hard work they do in assisting first responders.
News 25 took a glance at what dispatchers do at the Mississippi Highway Patrol Public Safety Dispatch Office.
National Public Safety Telecommunications Week is this week and the week honors all dispatch operations under police, fire, and medical call centers.
The week began in 1981.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop K is one of many dispatch centers along the Coast. The troop serves the six coastal counties with a team of five dispatch employees to answer the call.
Lead Dispatch Lindsay Collum shares more on operating under pressure to dispatch emergency response. “Because if you panic, the caller is going to panic as well. And you don’t want them to panic, you want to do as much as you can to help them until help actually gets there to physically remove them or physically give CPR or anything like that. When you call 911 on your worst day, just know that the voice on the end of the line is there to comfort you and send help your way.”
