A Gulfport man who was using other people’s identities and credit cards was arrested in D’Iberville on Saturday.
Police Chief Shannon Nobiles said 44-year-old Michael Payne was charged with seven counts of identity theft, credit card fraud and possession of a controlled substance. He was taken to Harrison County jail and bond was set at $760,000. He is awaiting an initial appearance.
Police say on Friday, a victim of identity theft contacted criminal investigations after seeing an unauthorized transaction for $4,000 on her Kohl’s account. Video footage was obtained and Payne was identified as the suspect. Investigators also learned Payne was wanted by Biloxi Police on credit card fraud charges and MDOC for a parole violation.
He was arrested without incident coming out of Kohl’s on Saturday. During the booking process, officers found him in possession of the controlled substance and several notebooks with documents of personal identifying information of other victims of identity theft previously reported to D’Iberville Police.
